GPC has convened a worldwide network of promotional teams to ensure wide-reaching and global coordination of activities on the 2016 International Year of Pulses. The National Groups are made up of experts with “great ideas” who plan and coordinate the most important activities of IYP 2016 outreach, from the ground up. Their work is essential to the successful dissemination of the key thematic areas of the Year.
The Groups will meet via a conference call every two months. The purpose of the calls is to provide an update on activities, exchange ideas, identify gaps and coordinate a global approach on the key themes of the IYP 2016. As of May 2015, there are 34 countries on the National Promotions Group mailing list and additions to this list will follow over the course of 2015 and 2016:

The Groups have already undertaken a wealth of activities, with actions taking place across the whole agri-food value chain. Examples of activities include:
- Work with retailers on packaging logos
- Pinpointing possible ‘Celebrity Ambassadors’
- Bilateral meetings with national ministries of health and agriculture
- Outreach to industry stakeholders at trade shows
