Dr. Mahmoud Solh, Director General at ICARDA, gave an amazing and informative presentation during the UN Launch of the International Year of Pulses 2016 in Rome. Dr. Solh emphasized that pulses offer many nutritional benefits which could be used as a solution for some of the great challenges of Agriculture. These challenges include the growing world population and its effects on demand for food, energy and water.
ICARDA has worked on many projects to reduce hunger, and improve farming. These projects include Bio-fortified pulses in Bangladesh developed by NARS and ICARDA which have grown in 145,600 ha, producing 186,000 tons for domestic consumption.
