Regional Conference Central American Cooperative Program for Crops and Animal Improvements

Renowned researchers and speakers will attend the meeting to discuss on current topics such as regional strategies for food security, mitigation and adaptation to climate change, rural and territorial development, family farm and innovation on agriculture to improve yield through an effcient use of natural resources such as soil, water, non traditional crops. 

Regarding crops, bean is one of the most important sources of protein in Latin América and the Caribbean. This legume provides nutrition factors, social and economic stability to small farmers, and is both an important and permanent job source in rural communities. The conference will promote the role of beans in Latin American diets in the margins of the 2016 International Year of Pulses.

Other countries that join the PCCMCA are Panama, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatermala, El Salvador, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Mexico. 

To be held at Hotel Crowne Plaza San José Corobici.  The opening plenary talk is Agriculture and Environment: Intrinsic components for national development” (Agricultura y ambiente: componentes intrínsecos para el desarrollo territorial)

The lead organization is the Costa Rican Instituto Nacional de Innovación y Transferencia en Tecnología Agropecuaria (INTA) (National Institute for Agricultural and Livestock Innovation and Technology Transfer).
