International Conference on Pulses for Health, Nutrition, and Sustainable Food Security in the Dry Areas

The Conference will provide a platform to various stakeholders including scientists, policy makers, extension workers, traders and entrepreneurs to discuss various issues related to the contributions of pulses to food and nutritional security and ecosystem health through their carbon footprint and nitrogen fixation with a focus on Central and West Asia and North Africa.  A road map will be developed for increasing productivity and profitability of pulses through diversification and intensification of cereal-based cropping systems. The Conference will comprise six well-structured technical sessions with keynote addresses by distinguished scientists. A poster exhibition will also be organized on major themes. During the Conference, a visit will be arranged for the participants to observe various field experiments on pulse crops at the Marchouch Research Station and farmers’ fields in Morocco.

This conference is organized by the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) and the Institute National de la Recherche Agronomique (INRA), Morocco, in collaboration with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and OCP Foundation and CGIAR Research Program on Grain Legumes, as well as the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRI-SAT), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research (EIAR), General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policy (GDAR) of Turkey, University of Western Australia (WA), Institute for Sustainable Agriculture (CSIC) of Cordoba, Spain, and the University of Davis, California, USA.

Innovative techniques for pulses improvement and adaptation
Diversification and sustainable intensification of agri-food systems through pulses
Seed systems, input markets and mechanization
Nutrition, fortification, health and food security
Social, economic and policy issues, particularly adoption and constraints to adoption, impact assessment  

Call for Papers

Participants of the Conference are invited to contribute abstracts of papers for oral or poster presentation on pulses with areas that pertain to the six themes. Abstracts should not exceed 250 words and should be submitted online.
